Cruise

The cruise was amazing!!! A much needed relaxing vacation. The first island we stopped at was Freeport. We had no excursions scheduled for this island so we mostly lounged by the pool and got off the boat to peruse the little tent shops set up right next to the dock. We would've gone into town but it cost $10 per person for a taxi to get into the town to do whatever and since we's poor and thought we'd be doing beach stuff on our third island we opted out. We then ate the most delicious meal at this kick ass steakhouse on the boat. And I mean like 4 course meal...so full...

Next day was Nassau Island, home of the super impressive Atlantis Resort , which we did not go to, because we were too busy swimming with sealions! Our designated sealion was Murray, and he's quite the kisser! I got a kiss from him on the cheek & lips. He's very well trained and they feel really cool when you pet them. We also met Murray's son (through a cage) who is the first-born sealion in the Bahamas named Milo. So adorable! And we got to see the 2 dolphins that played Flipper in the 1995 film (one of them is named MacGuyver!) and a 5 day old dolphin! Needless to say it was a kick ass experience. I only wish we were allowed to use our own cameras for the sealion, and I wished we had at least brought them so I could've gotten pictures of Milo (but we thought no cameras allowed, so why bring one? dumb me).

After the sealions we did a little shopping on Nassau, but didn't have a whole lot of time, and were in need of some food so we quickly ran through the shops in order to get to SeƱor Frogs, the local tourist party drink restaurant. After a margarita & 2 plates of nachos we felt much better. Some of us even got up for free shots & joined a conga line which offered more shots (check the pictures to see who!). Lemme just say shopping on Nassau is not really pleasant. They're so pushy, constantly asking things like, "Hey pretty lady, you want your hair braided? You want a Cuban cigar for your loved one?" One tent, which I have deemed the tent of purses, was literally a circus sized tent filled top to bottom and side to side with goods--mostly knock off designer purses. They have tables set up maybe with a 3 foot aisle between them and every 4 feet you reach the end of one table and enter a new shopping territory and get harassed all over again. Not cool. I got a couple cool necklaces, which I need to alter a little because they're poorly made or missing strings, but I figure they're worth it cuz they're pretty. :P Sadly because we were so rushed I wasn't able to get many gifts to bring back. Probably better, since most of the gifts in my price range were really cheesy anyway.

Now, remember how I said 'thought we'd be doing beach stuff on our third island"? We only got to make 2 of the 3 island stops because as we tried to get close to the Norwegian owned island of Great Stirrup Cay it was too windy to keep the boat steady. Thus the ferrys could not come get us from the boat to take us to the island. So no snorkeling or crystal clear blue water beach for me. :( It's ok though, the day of doing nothing at sea but lounging by the pool, drinking beer, and playing cards was a decent substitution. We kind of suspected the high winds might have had something to do with that hurricane that was creeping up, but who really knows.

Overall, I ate way too much and had a great time and want to go back...now.

hope for the best
I don't do really do this a lot 'cuz I'm not really religious and really don't like to make other people uncomfortable, especially in the way I know religion can. However, with hurricane Gustav scheduled to hit Louisiana & the rest of the gulf in less than 8 hours I'm asking you all to pray for the city and the people in the area. Pray to whatever or 'whoever' you believe in that the area isn't decimated again and that everyone is doing well. I really do not like organized religion, but I definitely believe in the power of prayer thought, and belief. I'm freaking out here. Talking with my ex is confusing as ever, which I know is partly prompted by the stress level of the hurricane and the possibility of destruction and him losing 'everything' again... :(

Hope for the best people.

I highly recommend viewing the set as a slideshow (it's just easier & you can click on any picture at any time to see the captions/titles--nifty). I also just discovered Flickr's map function--you can place a marker where the pictures were taken which I think is really cool. I guess it might not be so cool if I have a stalker, but oh well. Only thing that sucks about the map is where it zooms in when you click the plus so if you don't have an exact location it's kind of retarded sometimes.

Anyway, the weather was awesome, the food was good and I had my first crawfish which was really yummy but I'm really not a fan of peeling them apart (gross!). Which is strange cuz I don't really get grossed out that easily, but something about having to tear their heads off then peel apart their butts was not all that appealing to me...maybe they'll grow on me over time. Played a lot of horseshoes that day, got some sun (yay farmer's tan), and spent a lot of great time with Adam (I miss him ).

School is crazy, we're at midterms next week & I feel like I haven't gotten shit done for my demo reel...so much more to do...

I have new website--woot. Check it out, make comments/suggestions. :) My demo reel is a work in progress but we needed to upload what we had, but even still, comments/suggests on it are not unwanted.

my website!

One class done, 2 to go (technically they're both separate parts of the same class that usually you take in 2 quarters, but I'm crazy & taking them together so I can graduate next quarter--so it's like one big class)

woot!
I almost did my first side crow pose on the right side in yoga tonight (almost meaning I totally had 1 foot off the ground & felt more balanced than ever before but, I just couldn't find my center to pop the other up)! It looks like the picture below for those of you unfamiliar (I was unfamiliar myself until last week). My left side I could barely get one foot up, just couldn't get the balance right.

Ok back to homework...I only posted this because I'm excited and stupid 3ds max just crashed. (thank god for autoback).

I'm done---Whoo hooo!!!!
I just finished all my projects for the quarter--time to paartaay! Well ok, I could probably still tweak my Unreal level a bit, but it's so large I don't really give a fuck anymore & it shouldn't bring my grade down too much. I will post examples later, but now I go work out.

I got back from the dentist about 45 mins ago and half my face is still numb from where they filled my little cavity. This would ordinarily be entertaining but I'm hungry and need to pack up & head out to class soon...I tried eating a little piece of chocolate just to see how eating would be and lets just say it didn't work out well. Whenever food would get to the numb side it was just strange & I couldn't really taste it because part of my tongue was numb as well. Oh well. Back to homework--final projects suck!

Mini rant
So I was in Target last night and I found 2 things that were annoying.

1. Their radios now make the same noise as moving/selecting things in FFVII.

2. There's a paperback version of 30 Days of Night. That pisses me off because it's originally a fucking graphic novel--so people should read the awesome graphic novel, not some shitty novelization based off the movie (which I have not seen yet so I have yet to determine if it's awful or not).

Ridiculous...

WTF Flickr?!?
Has anyone else who uses flickr been having problems with their uploader? I can't even upload from my computer because the uploader can't connect to flickr--I have to use my roomate's computer which for some reason flickr likes. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the wireless connection I'm running off of...

Coolness
I'm leaving for New Orleans tomorrow (whoo-hoo!) and at school I attended a "lecture" from John Youssi. It was really cool to hear about his experiences/struggles as an artist. He mostly does artwork for pinball games and now video slot machines, but also did all of Midway's illustrations for Midway's Cruis'n World & Cruis'n World Exotica as well as a bunch of commercial food products. Let's face it, his shit is phenomenal. All the work he did for Cruis'n World & the pinball game 'Road Show' is all traditional media. Airbrush with meticulous masking & friskets, gouache and stuff--fuckin' Amazing! Side note: He's missing his pointer finger on his left hand which I didn't even notice until he passed around some reference photos that he was the model for and he had drawn in where the finger would go in blue ink.

Check out some of his stuff here

Have a good weekend folks!

Obnoxiousness
One of the most annoying sounds in the world early in the morning (besides everything) is that fuckin' walkie-talkie phone noise when someone is trying to talk via walkie-talkie instead of their phone. I get out of my car at school and hear that noise about 6 times in less than 5 minutes no probably 3 minutes...I almost ran over to the girl with said walkie-talkie, grabbed it and smashed it into the ground. Lucky for her I'm waaay to lazy in the morning to do shit like that. :p
